Story of the Day: Hideki Matsuyama Wins Masters

"How Hideki Matsuyama ended his and Japan's long wait for a Masters champion"

· story of the day

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- At the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, after Japan's Hideki Matsuyma led at the turn and then bogeyed five of the final nine holes to finish in a tie for fifth, he buried his head in his hands and cried after an interview with a Japanese reporter. Even at the age of 25, Matsuyama felt the burden of trying to become the first male golfer from his country to win a major championship. Matsuyama carries that weight no more. In Sunday's final round of the 85th Masters at Augusta National, he became the first Japanese man to win one of golf's majors with a final round of 1-over 73 to beat Will Zalatoris by one shot. ESPN
